The X242 Developer System marks a generational shift in edge AI: the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Thor T5000 is based on the Blackwell GPU architecture with 2,560 CUDA cores and 96 fifth-generation Tensor Cores, delivering up to 2,070 TFLOPS (FP4 sparse)—around ten times the performance of the AGX Orin 64GB. This makes the X242 the platform of choice for large multimodal language models (LLMs), generative AI at the edge, complex real-time inference with multiple models running in parallel, and advanced robotics applications.
The X242 carrier board is designed for the high power demands of the Thor T5000, supporting up to 120 W operating power, a 24–48 V input range, and a 300 W design headroom. Two native 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports (RTL8127) handle upstream connections. A PCIe Gen5 x16 slot (x8 lanes active) enables high-speed expansion for storage, FPGAs, or additional accelerators. Three USB-C ports with DisplayPort Alt Mode support up to four simultaneous displays via a single cable.
Onboard Wi-Fi 5 (LM843, 2.4/5 GHz) with Bluetooth 5.0 is integrated directly, eliminating the need for external modules. Dual CAN with transceiver, a hardware crypto chip (ATSHA204A), MCU, and RTC complete the industrial feature set. The system operates in an industrial temperature range from –40 °C to +85 °C and is delivered with a pre-flashed 128 GB NVMe SSD—ready for immediate development.
